So much beauty it can make you cry…

Laura and I have been doing a little island hopping here in the San Juan archipelago. So far, we’re both absolutely in love with Orcas Island.
Many places we’ve ridden have been beautiful, but non quite like Orcas. Although it has the reputation of being one of the hilliest islands in the San Juan’s it is absolutely beautiful here. The riding is superb with some great rollers and gut busting hills that are rewarded with some thrilling downhills and of course, the beautiful view.
While riding around the last few days I had this Modest Mouse song in my head and had to make a video with it. I accidentally set my GoPro Hero Wide
to shoot stills while on a descent. It was an accident, but I decided to incorporate the 115 stills it took with some riding video and I think it came out great.
So far, I’ve been pleased with the GoPro Hero Wide- it has its limitations but if you work within them it’s a blast and a great way to get some footage of your adventures. If you’re interested in getting one, buy one from our linkand you will help out the site as well!

You go downhill faster than I do.
Hell, most people do, though. I tend to ride my brakes a lot going downhill.

I stumbled onto your blog a few days ago and have really enjoyed “virtual touring” with you. Great video–watching it here at work makes me want to climb through the screen and pedal. And as natives of the area Modest Mouse is an appropriate soundtrack. The San Juans in August are something special. I biked all over San Juan a few years back and remember always having plenty of wild blackberries at my fingertips. Sigh, back to work.

I have been checking out your site while at work. They block a lot of stuff, so today I took a sick day (sniff, sniff) and checked your site out - with pictures, video and all the trimmings. He he - way better with the media. Thanks for posting. I am trying to break free of the cubicle lifestyle. I am currenty working as a commercial artist, photographer, videographer for an energy company (although a photographer by trade) and feel imprisoned in the cubicle world. I take weekend bicycle tours to escape and I am planning to do a TransAmerica tour in three years when my son graduates high school. Thanks for the inspiration!!
