Panniers & Peanut Butter - The Ultimate Gear Guide

    By Laura | September 20, 2010

After nearly 14 months of traveling the US on bicycles, we have finally put together a comprehensive guide to all of our gear, with great photos from the last year, and road-tested tips that we’ve discovered along the way (how to find electricity on the road, the virtues of the tortilla, etc.,) Today, it is available to the world!

We’re really excited to release Panniers & Peanut Butter and we hope that it makes bike touring more accessible and inspires you to put together your own touring gear, finagle the time, and hit the road!

    plp-ebook-cover-trim

Panniers & Peanut Butter is 75 pages long and goes way beyond a simple list of our stuff, or even a technical look at the pros and cons of different items. It’s chock-full of photos, tips, stories, lessons - and probably everything you could want to know about all of our gear.

    Details:

Panniers & Peanut Butter is a downloadable ebook. You will receive a file in a PDF format, which should be readable on any computer, iPod/iPhone/iPad, and Nook.

Price per ebook is $20. (Payment is through Paypal, which also accepts all major credit cards.)

Upon purchase, you will be directed to a link, from which you’ll be able to download the file.

To purchase, just hit this button:
    Add to Cart

Thank you to all of our readers, followers, supporters and friends around the US and beyond! You have inspired us to keep traveling and exploring and inspiring others to get on their bikes as well. See you on the road!

Really enjoying this book. Thank you.

For the curious, I downloaded this book to my Nook eReader. The formatting leaves a lot to be desired, but it *is* readable.

Thanks Ethan. We’ve been wondering what it looks like on other readers. It’s horribly difficult and unattractive for us to convert the ebook to the proprietary file formats used by the Nook and Kindle (et al), so we’ve been hoping that it would come through okay in PDF format.

Sorry I won’t be able to read this book since I have an old, very slow laptop. Just release it on paper for crying out loud. Maybe we’re behind the curve but I’m sure we’re not the only ones.

It is a nice bike tour practical tutorial book. Love it and as always very well written.
I was just wondering look at Russ’ bike. It said Russ using XTR crankset with 12-36T sprocket, while the picture of bike said differently, it seems you use Roadbike crankset instead of mountainbike crankset.

    9. Russ Says:
      September 22nd, 2010 at 4:43 pm

      Willy,
It’s a a NOS XT mountain crankset purchased from a bike shop. They had some old late 80s/early 90s stock. Back then the cranks were silver and didn’t have that mountain-ish look they do have now!

Konrad - Thanks for your comment - We haven’t yet decided whether we’ll release the gear guide in a printed version, mainly because the overhead cost of doing so makes it rather cost-prohibitive for us and likely will require that the purchase price be higher - Feel free to purchase the e-version and print out a copy to read that way.

    14. Bryan Says:
      September 28th, 2010 at 6:27 pm

Overhead cost? Just port your text and photos to a Blurb or other print-on-demand service. Add your fee to their minimum cost and that’s what the book costs. $20 for the eBook, $50 for the dead tree version (or whatever). People buying it will understand that it is funding your continued journey.

I’ll be able to browse the paper version years from now, the ebook will be either unreadable or just lost in the shuffle of computers.
